Charming towns on the Costa Brava

Spending a little more time in the car, this time on smoother roads, we find inland cities like Girona, considered one of the 10 best tourist destinations in the world thanks to its cathedral and neighbourhoods that still preserve the spirit of bygone times, or the beautiful medieval town of Besalú, where you can also enjoy incredible mountain cuisine.

Medieval villages of the Costa Brava

The Costa Brava is characterized by beaches and coves with crystal-clear waters and cliffs covered with typical Mediterranean pines, but its interior is home to some of Catalonia's most charming villages. Some of the charming towns you can visit from S'Agaró include Cadaqués, Begur, Calonge, Pals, Peratallada, and Madremanya.

Girona

Girona is the capital and largest city in the region, and boasts a truly spectacular old town. The Onyar River divides the new city from the medieval city, with its colorful houses, one of Girona's most recognizable landmarks. Its Jewish Quarter, the Cathedral of Santa María, and the Roman walls are some of the city's must-see attractions. It's no wonder that, due to its medieval atmosphere, the series "Game of Thrones" chose Girona to film some of its scenes for the sixth season.

Barcelona

Barcelona is internationally known for its people, its culture, its sea, Barça, and its architecture. Antoni Gaudí left his most important legacy here with unique buildings such as La Pedrera (Casa Milà), Casa Batlló, Park Güell, and the imposing Sagrada Familia basilica. Other architects, such as Josep Puig i Cadafalch, also left their mark with iconic buildings like the Palau de la Música Catalana.
